Our Client :

Our client is raising a €75m fund (about CFA 49bn) to acquire significant minority positions in small and mid-size businesses in Francophone West Africa. The Fund will have an important emphasis on the rise of the African consumer market and the quest for higher industrial output in the region. Focus sectors include fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), retail, logistics, healthcare, education, manufacturing and business services.

 

Our Client has been established in 2016 by West African professionals with a shared interest

in utilising private equity to foster economic and social development in West Africa. Our client is the only private equity firm founded and managed by West African professionals with the goal to focus solely on French-speaking countries of the region. Principals have extensive investment experience in local and international firms in private equity, leveraged finance and capital markets. In addition to the investment team, our client is building a portfolio operations team, which he believes to be unique among SME players in the region. This currently comprises an Operating Partner with strong industrial experience in Europe and a Senior Advisor with over 30 years of FMCG experience across Africa.

 

Our client adopts a collaborative approach to engaging with the companies in which it invests. We prioritise the institutionalisation of ambitious SMEs, looking to expand regionally. Our value addition work includes sound corporate governance, business leadership, financial discipline and operational excellence. In doing so, our client draws on its team’s deep experience in strategy and operations across Africa and in Europe. 

 

The Vice president will play an important role in my client’s team, providing critical deal execution and investment management support. The position will be based in Abidjan and will entail travels to other parts of West Africa to work on transactions and support on key initiatives at portfolio companies. The role will offer a competitive remuneration package both in annual salary and bonus as well as carry interest.

 

 Major Responsibilities:

  • Deal execution: with the help of an associate, conducting detailed financial review of new targets; undertaking industry research and building a detailed financial model that includes a comprehensive valuation; writing the investment proposal to be submitted to the investment committee; managing detailed financial, tax, ESG, legal and reputation due diligence exercises.
  • Value maximisation: observer/board member, writing of value maximisation plan, providing analytical and research support on key strategic and operational initiatives at portfolio companies; providing technical and other financial advisory support to portfolio company CFOs.
  • Reporting: querying and collecting of portfolio company monthly management accounts; supporting in the compilation of quarterly and annual shareholder reports.
  • Team: oversight of associates and interns work

 

Description du profil du candidat :
  1. Ideal Experience
  • Advanced business and/or financial degree preferred.

6-8 years’ experience at one or more of the following : i) transaction services unit of a leading audit firm ii) highly rated private equity fund iii) leveraged finance or mergers & acquisitions department of a major investment bank or corporate finance boutique iv) a top tier management consulting firm.

  • Must have gained significant business analysis skills, including advanced financial modelling techniques and deep experience in valuation.
  • Strong background in conducting due diligence exercises, particularly commercial and financial diligences.
  • Transaction experience in Africa a strong advantage.
  • Fluency in French and English is a requirement for the position.
