Job Description / Role / Responsibilities :

Our client is looking for a pro-active and astute candidate to provide middle and back office management to an Africa-focused asset manager based in London and Johannesburg. The business currently operates 2 funds based in Equity and Debt strategies across Africa.


Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the core trade cycle including electronic trade booking, confirmation and reconciliation processes on typical credit and equity products including OTC derivatives.
  • Liaise with outsourced service providers such as Prime Brokers, Custodians and Administrator
  • Compare trade position files from external counter-parties to resolve timely events such as margin call disputes and management of corporate actions
  • Monitor and execute trade settlements for a range of markets and products.
  • Work with internal departments (COO, Marketing, front office) to resolve all discrepancies
  • Produce and distribute ad-hoc reporting requirements to clients
  • Train and manage junior staff members in daily operations, and year end processes
  • Consistently seek opportunities to improve processes, controls and procedures within the Collateral Management team
  • Daily position, valuation, exposure and NAV reconciliation and related reporting.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc fund research and reporting as required by Fund Managers.
  • Responsible for risk management control 
Candidate profile :
  • A minimum 3-4 years middle or back office experience with either a fund manager, asset management firm or investment bank.
  • Experience with Bloomberg, and potentially Broadridge / Paladyne.
  • An understanding of the finance and regulatory environment through education or past working experience.
  • A good knowledge in financial products (equities, bonds, etc) and accounting.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent numerical skills.
  • Good organizational skills to meet daily deadlines.
Additional information :

The role is located in Johannesburg, however will require liaison with the front office and governance both locally and in London.
